How to restore a control unit if a One-Click App fails to activate on a BMW vehicle?

If you see a red “Needs Restore” label next to a control unit in your BMW, it means something went wrong during a One-Click App activation. Until the unit is restored, the vehicle features managed by it may stop working.

What does it mean?

When a One-Click App fails or is interrupted, the control unit may lose its configuration. OBDeleven automatically creates a backup before applying changes – and if something goes wrong, it offers a restore option.

For example, if the Multimedia unit needs restore, features like:

  • Navigation

  • Hands-free calling

  • Radio or media playback

…may not function until it’s recovered.

How to fix it?

1. In the Control Units list, locate the one marked “Needs Restore.”

2. Tap on it. You’ll see a message saying the unit has lost coding data. Tap the “Restore” button in the popup to return it to its previous working state.

3. Once the process is complete, the related features should start working again.
