Hybrid battery check is an OBDeleven feature that helps you quickly assess the health of your Toyota or Lexus hybrid battery. It analyzes key battery parameters – battery balance and battery temperature – and turns them into an easy-to-understand report.

Hybrid battery check is available with both OBDeleven 3 and OBDeleven 2 (NextGen) devices.

Note: This feature is still in beta, which means we’re actively fine-tuning it based on feedback to deliver even more accurate and reliable results in the future.

What information Hybrid battery check shows?

After running the Hybrid battery check, you’ll see:

  • Battery balance (ΔSoC) – how evenly the battery modules charge and discharge

  • Battery temperature – whether the battery operates within a safe temperature range

  • Overall battery status – a simple summary based on both balance and temperature data

How does OBDeleven evaluate battery health?

OBDeleven evaluates hybrid battery health using two key indicators:

  • Battery balance (ΔSoC)

  • Battery temperature

Based on the combined results, the app shows one of three overall battery health statuses:

  • Battery health great the battery is in good condition. This means that no significant issues were detected.

  • Battery warning minor issues related to battery performance or cooling efficiency were detected. These are not critical but should be monitored.

  • Battery health critical serious issues such as overheating or severe imbalance were detected. Troubleshooting or battery replacement is recommended, as these conditions may pose safety risks.

You can also review battery balance and battery temperature results separately for a more detailed view, all in the app.

Understanding battery balance results

Battery balance (ΔSoC) shows the difference in charge level between battery modules. The smaller the difference, the more evenly the battery operates.

In the OBDeleven app, battery balance is shown in three statuses, each indicating the current condition of the battery:

  • Balanced (up to 10%) – battery modules charge and discharge evenly. The system is operating optimally.

  • Slightly imbalanced (10–20%) – small differences between battery modules are present. While not critical, a persistent imbalance in this range may reduce long-term efficiency and should be monitored.

  • Unbalanced (over 20%) significant imbalance between battery modules was detected. This can lead to reduced performance, faster battery degradation, or system faults and requires immediate attention.

A balanced battery charge result will give you a screen like this in the app:

Understanding battery temperature results

Battery temperature shows how much heat the battery generates and how well the cooling system handles it. The higher the temperature, the greater the risk of overheating, damage, and reduced battery lifespan.

Here are the battery temperature statuses you may see when using OBDeleven’s Hybrid battery check and what they mean:

  • Optimal (15–40 °C) the battery is operating within a safe and efficient temperature range. Performance and lifespan should not be affected.

  • Elevated (40–55 °C) – the battery is warmer than ideal. While not immediately dangerous, frequent elevated temperatures can reduce efficiency and accelerate battery wear. Monitoring or improved cooling may be recommended.

  • Overheating (above 55 °C) – the battery temperature is dangerously high. This can cause rapid degradation, system damage, or safety risks and requires immediate inspection of the battery or cooling system.

Here’s what a healthy result looks like after the scan:

How to use Hybrid battery check and where to find it?

1. Connect your OBDeleven device to the vehicle

2. Open the OBDeleven app

3. Navigate to the Vehicle section

4. Click on Hybrid battery check tile

5. Start battery check and wait for the results
