Car inspection is a feature in the OBDeleven app designed to help you make confident decisions when buying a used car. It combines an Automatic scan that generates a Car health report, Manual inspection checklist for in-person viewing, and AI-powered Vehicle lookup.
This toolkit gives you a detailed understanding of a car’s condition and potential issues before you purchase or sell it.
Note: Car inspection was previously called Car buying assistant.
How does a Car inspection work?
Using the Car inspection features is effortless – all you need to do is choose the feature you’d like to perform and follow the instructions.
To use Automatic scan and generate a Car health report, you’ll need an OBDeleven 3 or OBDeleven 2 (NextGen) device. Plug it into the vehicle, open the app, and select Automatic scan under Car inspection. The scan runs automatically, checking all key systems and giving you a clear overview of the vehicle’s condition, which you can review in the app or export as a report.
Meanwhile, Manual inspection and Vehicle lookup are freely available in the app, even without the device – just enter the car’s model, make, and year.
What can I do with a Car inspection?
Here’s what the Car inspection feature helps you with:
Automatic scan + Car health report (with OBDeleven device): Do an in-depth diagnostic overview in minutes and generate a shareable PDF report
Manual inspection: Use an interactive checklist to inspect key aspects of the car, from bodywork to engine health
Vehicle lookup: Get AI insights into potential car problems for the car’s mileage before you buy
What is Automatic scan?
Automatic scan is a quick diagnostic performed with your OBDeleven device. It scans the engine and all available control units to detect fault codes in just a few minutes.
For supported models, it also includes a Mileage check to identify potential odometer rollback and a Hybrid battery check to verify battery balance. It’s the fastest way to understand a vehicle’s condition before buying, selling, or servicing.
What is Car health report?
A Car health report is a digital diagnostic summary generated after a full vehicle scan. It shows the overall vehicle status, detected fault codes, and system information in a clear, shareable format. The report can be exported as a PDF or shared via a link, making it easy to prove a vehicle’s condition to buyers or sellers.
What is Manual inspection?
The Manual inspection feature is an interactive checklist that guides you through inspecting a used car. It walks you through what to check – inside, outside, under the hood – and then generates a report to help you decide. Perfect for first-time buyers or anyone who wants to stay sharp when buying a used car.
What is Vehicle lookup?
The Vehicle lookup feature within the Car inspection toolkit allows you to input the car's make, model, and year. Then, the AI uses this data and other details like mileage to provide an overview of potential issues the car might face so you can spot red flags before buying.
Can I access or share Car health reports from Car inspection later?
Yes. Car health reports are saved automatically after each Automatic scan, whether you create a PDF or not. You can access all previously generated reports from the Car inspection start screen, making it easy to review, download, or share them later.
However, please note that each Car health report is valid for 90 days from the initial scan. After it expires, the vehicle must be re-scanned to generate a new report.
