Emissions readiness check is a feature in the OBDeleven app that helps you see if your car’s engine systems are ready for an emissions or technical inspection test. It collects data from your vehicle’s control units to show whether key emission-related components are working correctly.
Why is Emissions readiness check useful?
This check lets you quickly understand the overall condition of your car’s engine and emission systems before visiting a testing center. It can help you avoid failing an emissions test due to unnoticed issues.
If a system isn’t ready or a fault is detected, you'll be able to clearly see what needs attention, so you can make necessary fixes before the inspection.
What information does it show?
The feature scans and displays data from several important systems that affect your vehicle’s emissions performance, including:
Component and fuel system monitoring
Misfire detection
EGR or VVT system operation
Particulate matter (PM) filter status
Exhaust gas sensor activity
Boost pressure levels
NOx/SCR catalyst function
NMHC catalyst monitoring
It also shows useful contextual data such as your car’s fuel type, any emissions-related faults found, the distance driven since clearing faults, and how many warm-ups the engine has completed since then.
How to run Emissions readiness check?
Plug in your OBDeleven 3 device to your car and start the engine.
Open the OBDeleven app, tap on “Vehicle” on the bottom menu and select your car.
Find “Emissions readiness check” in the Explore section and tap on it.
4. You’ll see an introductory screen about this feature with the button “Continue” at the bottom. Tap this button to run the check.
5. After the check is completed, you’ll be taken to the results screen. At the top, you’ll immediately see if there are any engine issues.
If there's a check engine light on your dashboard and the test found issues, you’ll see a disclaimer like this instead:
6. Scroll down to see data from all tested emissions monitors.
If no issues were detected during testing, you’ll see this disclaimer at the top:
Note: If you ran Emission readiness check for a BMW F, G, or I series vehicle, you’ll need to turn off the ignition and turn it on again to access diagnostics and use One-Click Apps.
What do the results mean?
You’ll see one of the three labels on each emissions-related monitor:
Passed – this green label means the system is working as intended.
Failed – this red label means there are issues with the tested system that need your attention or the test hasn’t been completed yet (review steps in "Driving cycle information")
Unavailable – this grey label means the monitor is either unsupported or there is another reason it couldn’t be tested right now.
If all systems are shown as ready and no faults are present, your car is likely in good shape for an emissions or technical inspection.
If some systems are marked as unavailable or failed, it’s highly recommended to investigate further or service the vehicle before the emissions test.
